Can You Take CBD Oil On A Plane? What You Should Know

Can You Take CBD Oil On A Plane? What You Should Know

The benefits of CBD are most noticeable with daily use. If you’re going to fly out of town for a few days, you don’t want to disrupt your flow. If you get tense about traveling or have trouble sleeping in hotels, you definitely don’t want to leave your CBD behind.

So, can you take CBD oil on a plane with you? Here’s what you should know about taking CBD gummies on your next adventure in the sky.

Are CBD Gummies Legal?

CBD is legal on a federal level as long as it's derived from hemp plants. Hemp plants are cannabis plants that contain 0.3% THC or less by dry weight.

The US Farm Bill of 2018 legalized the use of hemp for both farmers and consumers. This means you’re free to consume hemp products and CBD products. So, is there a difference between hemp gummies vs cbd gummies, you might wonder? The answer is, yes. Since hemp comes from the cannabis plant, it can contain traces of THC, but not all CBD is derived from a cannabis plant.

The cannabis plant is used to describe any plant in the cannabis family that contains more than 0.3% THC by dry weight. Although some states have legalized cannabis use, cannabis-derived CBD still remains illegal on a federal level.

Anything federally illegal cannot be transported between states. If you’re using a CBD product derived from traditional cannabis (i.e., CBD and THC ratio gummies), you cannot bring them on an airplane. They may be legal in your state, but they aren’t legal the moment you enter a federally regulated airport.

Why Should You Travel With CBD Gummies?

When traveling, you need to think hard about what you plan to pack. Some people find that it’s easy to forget so much important stuff. Other people find that there aren’t enough suitcases in the world to pack what they need.

Whether you’re on team A or team B, you have a few excellent reasons to remember to pack your CBD.

Easing Travel-Related Stress

You’re likely to have fun once you’ve arrived at your destination, checked in, unpacked, and finally had some sleep. The process leading up to that point is always a little chaotic.

Wandering in and out of airports, searching for your baggage, and navigating transportation aren’t the best parts of your trip. CBD can help put you at ease.

CBD Promotes Better Sleep

Flying into a different time zone and disrupting your circadian rhythm with travel will make it difficult for you to get to sleep at the appropriate time.

If you need a little extra help dozing off, CBD Night Oil can help you get enough rest to enjoy your trip. You can also use it to help you get some sleep during a long flight.

Promote Relaxation During Vacation

If you’re traveling for enjoyment, you want to be relaxed. The whole point of taking a vacation is to enjoy yourself. You want to unwind, see the sights, and make memories with the people you care about. A CBD gummy functions as the perfect “chill pill” to keep you at ease all day.

What Does TSA Say About CBD Gummies?

Within the United States, you can fly with CBD products that contain less than 0.3 percent THC. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) technically explains that you can bring CBD gummies on an airplane in both your carry-on bag and your checked luggage.

However, TSA rules apply to liquids, such as oils, tinctures, and creams, which must be less than three ounces. You can also bring a CBD vape pen through airport security in your carry-on, but not in your checked baggage.

For the most part, TSA uses an honor system. They aren’t going to ask you if you’re carrying CBD, and they won’t specifically look for CBD. It is important to note that they’ll only call it into question if they happen to find what appears to be illegal hemp or cannabis products during the screening process.

Can You Travel With Other Forms of CBD?

You can travel with any form of CBD that meets the legal specifications. CBD Oil, topicals, and softgel capsules fall under the same umbrella. When traveling with any form of CBD, you should treat them all the same and it is always best to check your CBD certificate of Analysis for purity and any traces of THC. This means that the rules for CBD gummies also apply to every other form of CBD.

If you're bringing a CBD oil product with you, it is allowed "as long as it is produced within the regulations defined by the law," as stated under the 2018 Farm Bill. Any liquids or oils must observe TSA rules and be under the 3 oz limit.

How To Bring CBD Gummies on a Flight

Bringing CBD gummies on a flight can become a problem if you have no way to prove the product's origin. If your luggage is searched and a TSA agent finds the gummies, they may have a few questions to ask. After all, they need to be sure that what you’re carrying is federally legal.

CBD is common, so don’t worry too much. The chances are good that most TSA agents have crossed paths with CBD before. They know how to verify the contents of your gummies. You just need to make it easy for them.

The safest way to bring CBD gummies on a flight is to keep them in their original packaging. Don’t put them into a vitamin organizer or mix them with your other supplements or medications. Leave them in the manufacturer’s packaging, which should be clearly labeled in accordance with the law.

If you bought your CBD gummies from a reputable company, you should have access to a third-party lab report. Companies hire outside labs to measure their products' cannabinoid content and purity.

Every batch should have a lab report posted somewhere on the website for you to view.

Print the lab report that corresponds to the batch number of your CBD Gummies without THC. Affix the lab report to the packaging of your gummies. If TSA has questions, they can easily review the report, compare it with the packaging, and see that the product you’re carrying meets the legal requirements for THC levels.

Be Careful About Your Destination

Although hemp is legal under  federal law, some states have their own rules regarding CBD products. There are a few states where CBD that contains any detectable amounts of THC is entirely illegal.

If you’re flying to one of these states or if you have a layover there, you’ll technically be breaking the law the moment the plane lands.

Some states have restrictions for CBD. When traveling, you need to be sure that the CBD gummies you use at home will be legal where you land. This can be difficult to navigate if you’re stopping in multiple places.

The CBD you can use in Florida is subject to different restrictions from the CBD you use in Wisconsin or Idaho. The easiest way to travel with CBD is to avoid CBD products that contain any detectable amounts of THC. These products can safely pass from state to state.

Can You Travel Abroad with CBD Gummies?

Many countries forbid the use of CBD in its entirety and without exceptions. If you’re flying abroad where CBD is illegal, don’t take the risk by bringing any products.

However, Canada has now become a safe exception. Canada has legalized all cannabinoids on a federal level, meaning that there are no restrictions on CBD or THC.

For many EU countries, they allow CBD products under strict considerations and depending on the types of CBD you bring in.

Some countries, like Denmark and Finland, require a prescription, and THC levels must be under a certain percentage. Australia allows CBD but it must contain less than 0.05% THC, while New Zealand also requires a prescription. In the United Kingdom, CBD is legal if it contains less than 0.2% THC level. Other countries like Norway, Sweden, and France only allow CBD products that have no trace of THC. That means your CBD oil product must be 100% free of THC (CBD Isolate).

When traveling abroad to a country that allows legalized use, you’re better off buying your favorite CBD products when you land. You can rest assured that the CBD you purchase is legal because that country’s government regulates its production.

It is also important to note that you shouldn’t bring back any CBD when you return home. You can leave it with the friend or family member you came to visit and allow them to enjoy the rest.

Gummies You Can Bring Anywhere in the United States

Peels CBD makes traveling infinitely easier. Navigating the rules and restrictions for hemp derived CBD can get complicated when crossing state lines. You can bypass the entire ordeal by choosing a CBD product that isn’t derived from any plant in the cannabis family.

Peels uses orange peels to make CBD, and there are no laws about traveling with oranges or orange restrictions in any state.

We use a special process called cyclic terpene assembly to convert the aromatic terpene compounds in orange peels into a bioidentical form of CBD. It works the same way as hemp derived CBD, but it will never contain any amount of THC.

Pack your sunscreen, and don’t skimp on Peels’ fresh-squeezed CBD gummies for your next vacation!
